Man faces charges after daughter suffers head injury

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A Chambersburg man has been charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children after his daughter suffered a head injury, according to the Chambersburg Police Department.

Jamell Lee Billups, 31, was arraigned and placed in Franklin County Prison on $200,000 bail, according to a press release.

Billups was charged after his 3-month-old daughter was taken to Chambersburg Hospital at about 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 19, the release said.

The girl's parents said she was unresponsive, according to the release.

The girl was flown to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center after a preliminary investigation showed she was suffering from a head injury, the release said.

The girl remained at Hershey Medical Center where she was being treated Thursday for traumatic subdural bleeding and extensive retinal hemorrhages, the release said. It also was determined the girl had 16 rib fractures, the release said.

An investigation was under way to determined the circumstances behind the girl's condition, the release said.
