Theodore Franklin McKean, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at his home.

Born Tuesday, Nov. 29, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank Brandt McKean and the late Margaret Walklett McKean. His wife of over 65 years, Patricia Lee McKean, preceded him in death in January 2008.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1941. He served in the Navy during WWII as a signalman. He was employed at Pangborn, North End Market, Fairchild and Washington County Hospital, where he retired. He was a member at St. John's Lutheran Church, Morris Frock Post 42, Elks No. 378 and a founding member of Brother George's Club.


He is survived by daughter, Darlene Louise McKean of Florence, Ky.; three grandchildren, Eric K. Maire of Hagerstown, Md., Aimee L. Gabbard and husband, Justin of Nashville, Tenn., and Brandt M. Bradford and wife, Heather of Amelia, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Boston Gabbard and Mckenzie Bradford; sister-in-law, Rose Koogle of Hagerstown, Md.; brother-in-law, Ray Horchner of Hagerstown, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Strasser, and three brothers, James, George and Raymond Young.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., from the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD 21742, with the Rev. Edward Heim officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service Friday.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
