WILLIAMSPORT - Sara M. "Sally" Smith, 90, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, Md., and formerly of Harrisburg, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Homewood at Williamsport Retirement Center, Williamsport, Md.

Born Jan. 22, 1919, in Steelton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Nina (Jacques) Rahn.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Harry "Don" Smith, who died June 21, 2002.

Sally was salutatorian of the Steelton High School class of 1937. She attended Central Pennsylvania Business College until her marriage, and then lived in Harrisburg until moving to Williamsport, Md., in 1998.

While in Harrisburg, Sally was very involved in civic organizations and charity work. She was an active member of Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church, teaching kindergarten Sunday school there for 25 years. She did frequent modeling in the Harrisburg area, was an avid bridge player, loved to sew and do oil painting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.


She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Fritsch and husband Jim; two grandchildren, Julie Fritsch and Michael Fritsch; one great-grandson, Brayden Fritsch, and his mother Kendra Fritsch. She is also survived by three sisters, Ruth Bair of Enola, Pa., Laura Miller of Harrisburg and Virginia Ebbert of Wyomissing, Pa.

In addition to her husband Don, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Rahn, and a sister, Sandra "Sunny" Hauck.

Funeral services are being held at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Susan Boehl will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
