WOLFSVILLE, Md. - Catherine V. Harshman, 90, of Wolfsville, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 8, 1919, in Wolfsville, she was the daughter of the late Marshall H. and Nellie C. Cartee Leatherman.
Graduating with the class of 1936 from Middletown High School, Catherine became one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" employed with Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, during World War II. She was an avid gardener and lifelong homemaker.
Catherine was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, and attended Salem United Methodist Church, also in Wolfsville, on special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis C. Harshman, in 1970.
Surviving Catherine are four sons, Ronald F. Harshman and his wife, Sandy, of Mount Airy, Md., Meredith C. Harshman and his wife, Joan, of Myersville, Md., Alan D. Harshman and his fiance, Molly Souders, of Frederick, Md., and David M. Harshman and his wife, Sharon, also of Frederick; four grandchildren, Jeff Harshman, and Sarah Haddock and her husband, Andrew; one stepgrandson, Robert Hutzell; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Leatherman of Wolfsville.
