Halloween parade

The Funkstown Halloween parade is Thursday with trick-or-treat and the Mummers Parade over the weekend. Have you found a costume yet?

The Halloween parade starts at 6 p.m. Have your child ready to line up in the parking lot behind Town Hall by 5 p.m.

There will be bands from E. Russell Hicks Middle School and South High to lead the parade down the main street in Funkstown. Traffic will be affected by the parade.

Cookbooks for sale

St. Paul's Lutheran Church has a cookbook for sale. Copies cost $12 and make great holiday gifts. The title is "Cooking from the Heart," and isn't that what we all strive to do?

Call 301-797-6053 or 301-582-4339 (after 4 p.m. is best.)

Alumni to meet

The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will hold its next meeting Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the South High media center.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

My most heartfelt condolences to the family of John Shank.

His passing was a tremendous loss for our community as he was a kind and giving man, who could always be seen with a smile and a friendly greeting.

My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Sharon, and children.
