Grace advances in state tourney

Patrick Salvagno had two goals and two assists to lead Grace Academy to a 7-0 victory over New Life on Tuesday in the first round of the Maryland State Christian Tournament.

Luke Bunting had a goal and three assists, Spencer Horst had a goal and an assist, Zack Morgan, Jeremiah House and Sean Koontz each had a goal, Nick Montoya had an assist and Kenny Frederickson had six saves to post his 13th shutout for the Knights (21-1).

Clear Spring 3, Saint James 2

SAINT JAMES -- Blake Vincent scored twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime for Clear Spring, which rallied to defeat Saint James in the Blazers' final regular-season game of the year.

Matthew Blair tied the game at 2 with an unassisted goal in the final minute of regulation for Clear Spring (10-3-1). Nick Brandt had an assist and Ryan Cooper recorded nine saves.



Greencastle wins MPC playoffs

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Greencastle-Antrim won the Mid-Penn Conference Class AA playoffs, defeating Shippensburg 25-10, 25-20, 25-20 in the finals after beating Trinity 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 in the semifinals.

For the Blue Devils in the double sweep, Erin Garns had 55 assists, Sami Rudy had 15 kills and four aces, Nakita Gearhart had 14 kills and two blocks, Kelsey Gearhart had 19 kills, 21 digs and four aces and Katy Bobbitt had 25 digs and four aces.

Boonsboro 3, Brunswick 0

BOONSBORO -- Rebecca Demers had 27 assists and six digs and Alison Griffith had 13 kills, five digs and four aces to pace Boonsboro to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-9 sweep of Brunswick.

Megan Long had seven kills and Macy Fuscsick added seven digs for the Warriors (7-7, 5-2), while Laurin Smith had five aces, Gabby Smallwood tallied four aces and Jessica Mazelon added five kills.

JV: Boonsboro 2-0.

Musselman 3, Martinsburg 0

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Emily Funkhouser had 14 kills and eight digs for Musselman in the 25-11, 25-12, 25-15 sweep.

Taylor Oates had 27 assists for the Applemen (12-2), while Sammy Deter added 11 digs, Shayla Bartles had five aces and three blocks and Casey Bannon had three blocks.

Hedgesville 3, Jefferson 0

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- Aerial Munson had 40 assists as Hedgesville came back from a 17-6 deficit in the third game to sweep Jefferson, 25-22, 25-11, 26-24.

Lauren Hockenberry had 14 kills, Daniele Hoffmaster had nine kills, Meredith Shelton had eight kills and Kelly Rudy had seven kills for the Eagles (10-5).

Fannett-Metal 3, Southern Fulton 0

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. -- Masey Brown had three kills, Rachel Norris had 10 digs, Cierra Covalt had four assists and Kristen Miller had four service points for Southern Fulton (3-15) in the 25-16, 25-10, 25-18 loss to Fannett-Metal.


Mercersburg 2, McConnellsburg 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Ana Kelly scored twice as Mercersburg Academy shut out McConnellsburg (6-9-2).

Laura Rahauser and Deborah Adjibabah each had an assist for the Blue Storm (6-8-1).


Mercersburg 3, Notre Dame 1

Kiersten Sydnor had two goals as Mercersburg Academy beat Notre Dame Academy.

Sarah Wilson had a goal, Cammie Reilly and Liza Rizzo each had an assist and Jane Banta had four saves for the Blue Storm.


Mary Washington 5, Hood 1

FREDERICK, Md. -- Casey Miller scored on a penalty kick for Hood College in a loss to Mary Washington (11-4-3, 4-2-2).

Rachelle Buhrman had four saves for the Blazers (8-7-1, 2-6).


HCC Bonanza on Nov. 13

The first Hagerstown Community College Booster Sports Bonanza will be held Nov. 13 at the school's athletic complex.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the meal is served at 6:30, drawings for cash prizes and raffled sports items begin at 7:30 and a dance follows. Cost is $40 per couple.

Mountain Express X-C meet

The Mountain Express Cross Country Meet, open to runners of all ages and abilities, will be held Sunday at Smithsburg High School. The meet also will serve as a qualifier for the USATF Junior Olympics.

Registration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the course walk starts at 1 and the first of four races begins at 2.

Shepherd basketball clinic

The Shepherd University women's basketball team will be hosting a girls youth basketball clinic on Nov. 14 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Butcher Center.

The clinic will be run by interim head coach Melanie Ford along with assistant coaches Tammy Spence and Jason Smith. They will be assisted by the Shepherd women's basketball team.
