Wantz Distributors buys out Price Beers

October 26, 2009|By DAN DEARTH

HALFWAY -- Wantz Distributors expanded its business operations earlier this month with the purchase of Price Beers in Frostburg, Md.

Eric Riser, president of Wantz Distributors, said Monday his company bought Price Beers on Oct. 9

"It's one of those things we've been working on for a number of years," Riser said.

The acquisition will give Wantz Distributors the franchise rights to sell Anheuser-Busch InBev products in Allegany and Garrett counties, Riser said. Wantz Distributors holds the Anheuser-Busch InBev franchises in Carroll, Frederick and Washington counties.

Riser said Wantz Distributors will rent the existing Price Beers facility in Frostburg until a 25,000-square-foot warehouse is added to the company's headquarters at 11743 Hopewell Road in Halfway.

"We're in the process of doing the expansion," he said.

If everything goes as planned, the addition will be finished in April, Riser said.

Price Beers' 13 employees will retain their jobs and will not have to move, Riser said. They will continue to work their sales routes in Allegany and Garrett counties, and submit orders electronically. Riser said drivers at Price Beers will become sales personnel.

Riser said the purchase of Price Beers will bring the number of Wantz employees to a little more than 60.

Anheuser-Busch InBev products include Budweiser, Bud Light, Rolling Rock and Stella Artois.
