Charles Edgar Hoffman, 78, of 871 Pine St. in Hagerstown, Md., went to be with his Lord on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 10, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Blanche C. Kline Hoffman, and stepmother, Gladys Morningstar Hoffman.
He was raised in the Quincy Orphanage in Quincy, Pa.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He retired from Mack Trucks Inc. after 29 years of service.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for 51 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Sparks Hoffman; three daughters, Diane Hoffman Ross and husband, Billy, of Centreville, Va., Peggy Marie Shatzer and husband, Vaughn, of Hagerstown, and Martha Jane Leipertz and husband, Donald, of South Riding, Va.; one son, Howard Martin Hoffman and wife, Cindy, of Kissimmee, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Snook of Hagerstown and Doris Bluebaugh of Waynesboro, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
