Step 'n Stride sets records

October 25, 2009

HAGERSTOWN -- Step 'n Stride, an annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley, set a record Saturday by raising $171,000 so far, Executive Director Joan Fell said Sunday.

That number could go up as donations for this year's event will be accepted through the end of the year, Fell said.

The event at Hagerstown Community College's campus also set a record for participation with 1,000 people, Fell said.

Fell said the Fulton family of AC&T will make a matching donation of $38,000 to go with the almost $36,000 raised by the AC&T stores' team.

AC&T stores held various fundraisers throughout the year, including bake sales, sandwich sales, a dunking booth and a motorcycle ride, Fell said.

Proceeds will be used locally to support the free programs offered by the local organization, including mammograms, a wig and prosthesis bank, a toll-free Hopeline and support groups.
