ROHRERSVILLE - David Lee Baker, 62, of Rohrersville, Md., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at home surrounded by his family and friends.

Born Jan. 6, 1947, in Harmony, Md., he was the son of the late Elmer Andrew Baker and Alice Marie (Desmond) Baker.

He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife of 15 years, Phyllis Lee Baker at home. He is survived by three sons, Mark B. Baker of Frederick, Md., Paul F. Houck Jr. and wife, Heather, of Jefferson, Md. and Erick L. Baker of Frederick; two daughters, Dawn M. Baker of Rohrersville, and Patricia L. Shoemaker and husband, James "BJ" W. Shoemaker Jr., of Rohrersville; one brother, Thomas J. Baker and wife, Rosalind "Peachie," of Middletown, Md.; two sisters, Doris "Pete" E. Bidle of Frederick and Joan M. Baker of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Camden E. Houck and Carson D.T. Houck of Jefferson, and Jamie L. Shoemaker of Rohrersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Baker was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren in Myersville, Md., FSK American Legion Post 11 of Frederick, AMVETS Valley Memorial Post 9 (lifetime member) of Middletown, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1136 of Brunswick, Md., and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 371 of Frederick.

Mr. Baker graduated from Middletown High School in 1965.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.

He was employed by Southern States Petroleum in Frederick for 30 years.

In his earlier years, he played Little League, Babe Ruth and Adult Tri-County baseball for Harmony. He also was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.

Mr. Baker was a participant for The HeartMate II LVAS Pivotal Study Protocol with Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Memorial services will be Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Harmony Church of the Brethren, Myersville, with Pastor Tracy Lee Wiser and Pastor Jerry L. Lowans officiating.

Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Myersville. Bearers will be Harold Delauter, Gary "Buck" Fisher, Thomas Haines, Harold Hoffman, Harry Sprankle and Robert Summers.

Military honors will be accorded at graveside by AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
