WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - K. Jane Kershner, 80, of Williamsport, Md., died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.

Born May 7, 1929, in Oakland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Goldie L. Griffith Reckard.

She was a graduate of Oakland High School in Oakland, Md., and a graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree. She was May Queen at Frostburg State.


She previously was employed as a teacher by the Washington County Board of Education.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Hagerstown, Md., since 1953. She also was a member of the Garrett County Historical Society.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles R. Kershner of Williamsport; one daughter, Susan K. Shaw and her husband, Edward, of Williamsport; granddaughter, Sallie Young of Harrisburg, Pa.; granddaughter, Betsy Shaw of Williamsport; granddaughter, Coury Burton of Katy, Texas; granddaughter, Amanda Kershner of Richmond, Va.; and grandson, Charlie Kershner of Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by one son, C. Mark Kershner.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Sunday after 1 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with the Rev. W. Gregory Martin officiating. Graveside services will be Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. in Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Md.
