Lawson Oxendine, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., passed from this life to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009.

Born Dec. 25, 1923, in Florida, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Emma Dell Williams Oxendine.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was employed by Fairchild and Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.

He is survived by one son, Barry Lawson and wife Sara (Carlson) Oxendine of Frederick, Md., and daughter Tina M. Myers and husband Wayne A., previously of Hagerstown, Md.; two granddaughters, Lisa Myers Sommers and husband Benjy of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Beth Myers, previously of Hagerstown; also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Mercy and Judah Sommers of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by Mary Helen Hawkins Oxendine, to whom he was married for 48 years; a daughter, Lisa Dell Oxendine; and a son, Kirk J. Oxendine.

He was a 10-year member of the Maryland Board of Anatomy and Medical Science, that others might benefit from his donation.

Arrangements are at the convenience of the family.
