Smoketoberfest winners announced

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Twenty five teams competed Oct. 17 in Smoketoberfest at Rhodes Grove Camp and Conference Center in Chambersburg.

The Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned event was also a Pennsylvania state competition. KCBS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbecue.

KCBS sanctions barbecue contests throughout the United States, many of which can be seen on Food Network.

Grand Champion and $500 was awarded to Big Ugly's BBQ of Perryville, Md. Reserve Champion and $300 was awarded to Clay Hill Cookers of Greencastle, Pa. And Braggin' Rights champion and $250 was awarded to Saucy Butts BBQ of Annapolis.

Chicken category: First place and $350, Lo N Slo BBQ of Ringoes, N.J.; second place and $250, Big Ugly's BBQ; third place and $150, Saucy Butts BBQ; fourth place and $100, Flying Porkers of Willow Street, Pa.; fifth place and $75, Hempen Hill BBQ of Hagerstown.

Ribs category: first place and $350, Hempen Hill BBQ; second place and $250, Clay Hill Cookers; third place and $150, Hog Feathers BBQ of Media, Pa.; fourth place and $100, Red Lion Spicy Foods of Red Lion, Pa.; fifth place and $75, Pot Belly BBQ and Taneytown, Md.

Pork category: first place and $350, Clay Hill Cookers; second place, $250, Big Ugly's BBQ; third place and $150, We've Gone Hog Wild of Greencastle, Pa.; fourth place and $100, Zig's Pig BBQ of Shippensburg, Pa.; and fifth place and $75, Pot Belly BBQ.

Brisket category: first place and $350, Christmas City BBQ of Bethlehem, Pa.; second place and $250, Smokin Gnome BBQ of Shippensburg; third place and $150, Saucy Butts BBQ; fourth place and $100, Big Ugly's BBQ; and fifth place and $75, Pot Belly BBQ.
