William Albert Campbell Sr., 74, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Feb. 11, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Albert Eugene and Jane Ellen (Dorsey) Campbell.

He was the husband of the late Ethel V. Campbell, who died in 1995.

William served in the U.S. Army. He later retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown after about 15 years of service and was employed by Jim Holtzman's Garage in Hagerstown for the past eight years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle, Pa., and the Progressive Men's Club.

He attended Greater Campher Temple in Hagerstown.

William is survived by one son, William A. Campbell Jr.; one daughter, Karen E. Burnett; one brother, Raymond G. Campbell; two sisters, Clara J. Broadus and Dorothy E. Bell; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Lenora Greene, all of Hagerstown.


The funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Greater Campher Temple, 125 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Nathan Bell and Pastor Darin Mency will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. Full military honors will be accorded by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
