Basketball signups taking place at schools

The Hagerstown Junior Basketball League will hold registration and tryouts at the following locations:

o Oct. 26 - E. Russell Hicks Middle School

o Oct. 27 - Western Heights Middle School

o Oct. 28 - E. Russell Hicks Middle School

o Oct. 29 - Western Heights Middle School

Times are as follows:

Grade six, 6 p.m.; grade five, 6:30 p.m.; grade four, 7 p.m.; grade eight, 7:30 p.m.; and grade seven, 8 p.m.

Every youth is encouraged to attend tryouts as the league is open to all skill levels from beginner to advanced.

If you have not registered for the 2009-10 season, you may do so at tryouts. If completing registration at tryouts, it is suggested that you arrive early.

Antietam Bible College accepting applications

Antietam Bible College, Biblical Seminary and Graduate School, at 15 High St. in Hagerstown, is accepting registration for the spring semester, which begins Jan. 11. Late registration fees go into effect Dec. 21.

Bonanza to be held

St. Mary Catholic School will host a bonanza at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive Saturday, Nov. 7.

Tickets cost $25, which admits two people. Tickets include dinner, draft beer, soda and homemade desserts. Cash prices include: first ticket and every 20th ticket wins $25, the 100th and 200th tickets win $135 (celebrating 135 years of St. Mary School) and the last ticket drawn wins $2,500.

Tip jars, raffles, silent auction items and door prizes will be available. The DJ/dance begins after the drawings. The doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The Meadows Original Frozen Custard of Hagerstown will host its third annual end-of-year cruise-in to Benefit the Humane Society of Washington County Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

This annual event takes place at shop at 222 E. Oak Ridge Drive in the South Pointe Shopping Center.

The event will feature classic cars and music. The animal shelter will have adoptable animals on site from 1 to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Donations will be accepted throughout the day and evening at the drive-thru, walk-up windows or eat-in parlor.

Suggested donations include money, dog collars, leashes, scratching posts, portable kennels/crates, as well as PetCo and/or PetSmart gift certificates.

All donations will be eligible for a free small cone and entry to win a $5 gift certificate or Meadows T-shirt.
