SMITHSBURG -- Senior striker Ashley Ferguson had her own way of celebrating Senior Night at Smithsburg High School on Wednesday night.

Ferguson scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the second overtime to give the Leopards a 2-1 upset of Williamsport in an MVAL Antietam game.

"I am glad that we were able to hold together as a team until the end," Ferguson said. "I was so surprised about the goal. I just saw an opening and I put it in. It was a good win for the whole team. It has been a rough season. We have had a few close losses. It is a good way to go into the playoffs with a big win. I just hope that the momentum can carry over into the playoffs."

Ferguson got her game-winning goal from the right side on a throw-in from freshman back Elyse Koterwas.

"It was a great way for Ashley to end the regular season in her senior year," Leopards coach David Jones said. "She only had a few chances, but she made the one that counted."

The Leopards (3-8-1, 2-4-1) tied the game at 1 in the 74th minute when sophomore midfielder Rachel Poffenberger scored from the right side.

"During the last six games, I have seen a lot of improvement from our group," Jones said. "It is a combination of their competitiveness, soccer fitness and their soccer intelligence. Our team will not quit. With each game, our team gets aggressively better. It was good that everything was coming together in the final six games of the regular season."

Williamsport (7-7, 3-4) got its goal in the 36th minute when senior forward Chelsey Baturin scored through the middle on an assist by senior midfielder Brittany Weaver.

"We gave a good effort," Williamsport coach Jen Fields said. "We had our opportunities. We just couldn't put them away. We played well together on defense. We had a few breakdowns. Smithsburg came to play."

The Leopards outshot the Wildcats, 16-9.

JV: Williamsport, 5-1.
