Richard A. Brown, 81, of Foxville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the Marcella Center in Burlington, N.J.

Born Nov. 7, 1927, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Charles A. and Helen G. (Smith) Brown.

He graduated from Smithsburg High School with honors, class of 1946.

He was employed by Washington County Board of Education, both as a bus driver and custodian for Smithsburg and Cascade schools, and worked at Camp Louise in Cascade, Md., as caretaker.


He loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia R. (Clayton) Brown; stepchildren, Richard E. Clayton and wife, Susan, of Temple, Texas, and Ginna Brown and husband, Michael, of Willingboro, N.J.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother, Russell "Chum" Brown; and a sister.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Methodist Church, Bedford Road, Cumberland, Md., with Pastor Mark A. Hosler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
