Thornton F. White Jr., 81, of Keadle Road, Boonsboro, Md., passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Thornton F. and Hazel K. (Goodall) White Sr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally M. White, on May 22, 2005.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1944 to 1969, serving in World War II and the Korean conflict, reaching the rank of senior chief audioman.

He was a member of the Michael-Clopper American Legion Post 10 Boonsboro and The Tri State Base United States Submarine Veterans.


He is survived by son, Thornton F. White III of Sharpsburg; daughter, Robin L. Rippeon of Boonsboro; and grandchildren, Lydia White, Adelaide White, Andrea Rippeon, Erica Rippeon, Carly Rippeon and Cole Rippeon.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Michael-Clopper American Legion Post 10 Boonsboro at 6 p.m. with full military honors.

Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
