Delores "Dee" Jane Sundby, 80

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Delores "Dee" Jane Sundby, 80, of San Diego, Calif., beloved mother, aunt and great-aunt, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at home.

She was born April 2, 1929, in Dover, Ohio, to Clarence Arthur and Laura Hazel Anderson Sundby.

She had two sisters, Joanne Foster and Carol L. Shrock Rusher, who both preceded her in death.

She graduated from Dover High School (Ohio) in 1947 and went on to business school. She was engaged to Marine Sgt. Robert (Bo) John Wherley, who died in the Korean War in 1951. She married a year later and adopted her daughter and son in 1963 and 1966, respectively. She was always a devoted mother and best friend to her children.

She lived in Florida, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan and Maryland, where she resided until 2008. She then moved with her daughter to San Diego. Her witty humor and compassion gained her many very dear friends everywhere she lived.


She volunteered her time later in life to the Washington County Hospital and Children in Need, and was a long-standing member of the Brightwood Homemakers' Club (Hagerstown, Md.).

She is survived by her daughter, DeeAnn J. Dessecker of San Diego; her son, Douglas R. Dessecker of Frederick, Md.; nephews, Bill Foster and Brad (Terrie) Shrock; nieces, Peggy (Jim) Inama and Amy Mueller; great-nephews, Jeff Foster, Darren Chapa, Andrew Shrock and Alec Mueller; and great-nieces, Susan Inama, Megan Shrock and Abbie Mueller.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at 2 p.m.
