Pack 23 gets OK to spruce up park

Do you have a young man in your house who might be interested in shooting a BB gun or perhaps a bow and arrow?

Does camping and swimming and just generally having a good time and doing the things that boys do sound like something you want to get your first-, second- or third-grader involved in?

The Boy Scouts of Funkstown are waiting for you.

The Bear Cubs of Funkstown Pack 23 meet Mondays in the basement of St. Paul's Church at 6:30 p.m.

They are anxious to get more young men involved.

The Funkstown Mayor and Council voted unanimously last week to allow the pack to take on the project of conserving the resources at Funkstown Park.

They are undertaking the responsibility of raking flower beds, planting foliage, picking up trash, and the general beautification and conservation of the park that we all enjoy.

If you know of a young man who might be interested in joining the pack and having a blast, call Donnie Harriman at 301-739-8992.

Cruise-in set for Saturday

This Saturday at Meadows Original Frozen Custard of Hagerstown (just outside Funkstown at the South Pointe Shopping Center), there will be a 1950s-style cruise-in to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

There will be adoptable animals on site from 1 to 4 p.m. and donations will be accepted throughout the day.

Items to donate include money, dog collars, crates, food, bedding and gift certificates to local pet stores.

All donations are eligible for a free small cone from Meadows.

The event will include classic cars and music from the '50s.
