Woman facing charges in daughter's stabbing

October 20, 2009

A Hagerstown woman has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and other charges after she allegedly stabbed her 17-year-old daughter in the face on Sept. 5 during a dispute on Park Place, according to court records.

The daughter was stabbed four times in the left shoulder, once in her lower left leg and once in her right knee and thigh area, according to Washington County District Court records.

The most serious injury the daughter suffered was a stab wound in the left eye, for which the girl was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment, Hagerstown Police Department Detective Paul Hoover said in a criminal complaint.

The injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The mother is not being identified to protect the girl's identity.

The girl told police that the relationship between she and her mother has been strained and that the girl was petitioning a court to be emancipated, court records show.

The daughter was stabbed as she and her mother were arguing on a porch of a house, according to court records.

The mother first tried to punch her daughter, but missed, a witness said.
