Mr. Christopher Clayton Rumpf, 46, of Hagerstown, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1963, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Charles and Irene Martz Rumpf.

He was the husband of Tammy Jo Bennett Rumpf, his wife of eight years.

Mr. Rumpf was a 1981 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He had been employed with Shoppers Food Warehouse of Frederick and Olney for 21 years, was a member of the UFCW Union 400, Sons of American Legion and a life member of the NRA. He had served as assistant Scout master of Boy Scout Troop 1070.

Chris enjoyed hunting, attending air shows and outdoor shows, going to museums, Virginia Beach, his weekly visit to Famous Dave's Restaurant of Frederick, and spending time with his children and granddaughter.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Stephanie Rumpf of Martinsburg, W.Va., Ashley Rumpf of Grand Forks, N.D., and Jacob Rumpf of Fairfield, Pa.; granddaughter, Alexis; four sisters, Lorna Hubbard and husband, Charles, of Lewistown, Joanne Snoots and husband, James, Carol Owens and husband, Daniel, and Stacy Rumpf, all of Frederick; one brother, David Rumpf and wife, Suzanne, of Woodsboro; aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and William Young of Mount Airy; and former wife and children's mother, Jo Anne Burrows of Fairfield.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, with the Rev. William Bucher, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Utica, officiating. Interment will be in Utica Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.
