Geneva Ward Turner, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Smithsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Franklin E. and Geneva Ward "Leather" Doyle.

She was a graduate of Smithsburg High School.

She was a member of St. Peter's Beards Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg.

She was employed by Maidstone Inc. of Hagerstown and was a self-employed seamstress.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David A. "Dean" Turner, whom she married Jan. 10, 1953; daughters, Jean C. Shank and husband, William, of Williamsport, Md., Deborah A. DeLauter and husband, Ron, of Woodstock, Ga., and Kelly S. Jacobson and husband, Matthew, of Orlando, Fla.; son, David W. Turner and former wife, Darlene, of Clear Spring, Md.; sister, Emily M. Sheets of Smithsburg; brother, Franklin Doyle of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.


She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary C. Snook, Anna E. Gibbs and Gammalee Doyle; and brother, Emory C. Doyle.

There will be no viewing.

Services will be held Tuesday Oct. 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Thomas L. Perry officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Geneva to the St. Peter's Beards Lutheran Church, 21348 Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
