October 18, 2009

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania state fire marshal is investigating a Guilford Township house fire that was discovered Saturday in a second-floor bedroom, according to the assistant fire chief for the Fayetteville Fire Department.

The family and pets were able to escape the fire, Assistant Fire Chief Dustin Ulrich said. A smoke detector alerted them.

The fire at 1345 Hillendale Road was reported at 11:42 a.m. Saturday and was under control within 30 minutes, Ulrich said.

The fire destroyed the second floor of the home, which was a mixture of brick and vinyl siding, he said. The first floor was damaged by water and smoke.

Ulrich estimated the value of the damage at more than $150,000.

About 50 to 60 firefighters from 10 fire companies responded, plus an ambulance company, he said.
