Totem Pole honors Legacy Society charter members

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Totem Pole Playhouse, a professional summer theatre in Fayetteville, recognized five individuals as charter members of the newly formed Legacy Society on Oct. 2 at The Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg, Pa.

They are:

John Gates of Scotland, Pa.; Charles Q. Smith, Nathan Rotz and Elise Overcash, all of Chambersburg; and Sue McMurtray of Caledonia, Pa., were each thanked by Judy Houser, executive director, for their commitment to the playhouse to help ensure it will continue for future generations..

The Legacy Society is an honorary society recognizing individuals who have included the theatre in their estate plans.

Overcash, president of the board of directors, also presented seven awards. The list of awards is as follows:

Mr. and Mrs. William Reinhardt, Camp Hill, Pa. - President's Award for exemplary commitment to the theatre

Charles Q. Smith, Chambersburg -Benefactor of the Year for devotion and support of Totem Pole Playhouse


F&M Trust, Bill Snell, president, Chambersburg - Community Partner of the Year as a business supporter of the theatre since 1993

David Bailey, Chambersburg - Volunteer of the Year as chairman of the Friends of Totem Pole for 12 years

William Gelbach, Waynesboro, Pa. - 60 years of supporting the theatre as the remaining original shareholder out of 13.

Judy Houser, Chambersburg - 25 years of employment with the theatre

Sue McMurtray, Caledonia - 25 years of employment with the theatre

Totel Pole is one of 11 remaining Council of Resident Stock Theatres in the United States. Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of the summer playhouse.
