Hagerstown High Class of 1940 gathers for 69th reunion party

The Hagerstown High School class of 1940 held its 69th reunion at Fountain Head Country Club on Sept. 20.

Twenty-five class members and 12 guests attended. The event included dinner and music by Sentimental Sounds, which entertained with music from the 1940s.

The tables were trimmed with maroon and gray napkins (school colors) and favors made by Juanita Trovinger Moats. A center floral bowl was furnished by Bettie Shadrach Hyssong.

During the fellowship hour, hors d'oeuvres and punch were furnished by Jayne Fernsner Sterling and Jane Stickell Cochran. The members enjoyed reviewing school memories.

A program booklet prepared by Mary Black Stains was given to each class member. Gilbert "Buzzy" Everline led the group in a few well-known songs.

A memorial time listing the names of the 12 class members who died during the past year was conducted by Robert Hyssong. An update on the condition of those confined to homes was provided. The final words as the group left was, "See you next year for the big 70th reunion."
