JEFFERSON, Md. -- Wet road conditions were a factor in a fatal automobile crash Saturday afternoon on Md. 464 in Frederick County, Md., according to a Maryland State Police press release.
The driver of a 2008 Mitsubishi was westbound on Md. 464 (Point of Rocks Road) east of Lander Road when the car was driven through standing water and began to hydroplane, troopers said. It traveled from the westbound lanes across the eastbound lane and continued off the roadway, striking several trees, troopers said.
The operator was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department personnel, troopers said.
Troopers were withholding the driver's name Saturday night pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation revealed that weather, speed and driver error were the primary causes of the crash, troopers said.
