Russell Samuel Harris faces assault, burglary and battery charges

A man who faces assault and burglary charges after a shotgun was fired inside a home Sept. 20 in Hancock saw his case forwarded Thursday to Washington County Circuit Court.

Russell Samuel Harris, 42, of 16701A Raven Rock Road in Sabillasville, Md., is charged with three counts of first-degree assault, four counts of second-degree assault, first-degree burglary and other offenses, according to Washington County District Court records.

Washington County District Judge Mark D. Thomas, during a preliminary hearing Thursday, found probable cause for all the charges against Harris and forwarded the case, court records show.

Another man was struck several times in the head with the stock of a shotgun during the home invasion, records state.

Harris was being held on $500,000 bond Friday afternoon at the Washington County Detention Center.

The man who was struck in the head was lying in a bed, and the bed was covered in blood from the man's injuries, a detective wrote in a criminal complaint. The victim had injuries to his nose, mouth and jaw, and he had several loose teeth, the detective wrote.

When the shotgun was fired, it missed a woman's head by about 3 feet, records show.
