QUINCY, Pa. - Mrs. Elizabeth L. (Beaver) Barnhart, 96, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa., and formerly of 9697 Masters Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past two weeks.

Born June 13, 1913, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Elizabeth (Miller) Beaver. She lived her early life in the Greencastle area.

Mrs. Barnhart attended Brown's Mill school.

She and her husband, the late E. Merle Barnhart, were married June 13, 1933. Prior to moving to Masters Road in 1987, they lived in the area for over 50 years. Mr. Barnhart died Dec. 12, 1989. Mrs. Barnhart entered the nursing home in October 2007.

Mrs. Barnhart was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro, where she was a member of the Alpha and Omega Sunday School class.

Mrs. Barnhart enjoyed making rugs, gardening, working on her flowers, cooking, including making donuts and homemade potato chips for her family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Anna E. Groft of Mont Alto, Pa.; two sons, Clarence M. Barnhart of Waynesboro and Tommy L. Barnhart of Winston-Salem, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Pearl Backus, Martha Gabler Long, Carrie Fox Hair, Dortha Kershner and Marie Thomas Blakney; three brothers, Floyd Beaver, Myrl Brown and Hixon Brown; and one sister-in-law, Frances Beaver.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor John Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Grindstone Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, in the funeral home.
