WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Local landscaper Brian Stum was named the Roy S.F. Angle business person of the year Thursday in Waynesboro.

News of the award floored the lifelong resident as Stum's biography was read to the packed room at Waynesboro Country Club.

"I'm just a bit overwhelmed right now," he said.

The Greater Waynesboro Area Chamber of Commerce honored Stum as part of its 89th annual dinner.

Named for former Waynesboro attorney Roy S.F. Angle, the award is presented to a member of the business community who demonstrates both entrepreneurial drive and community awareness.

Former recipients of the award select the annual winner, said Carlene Willhide, adding that when Stum's name floated to the top of the list, she said she was pleased to see his efforts receiving recognition.

As co-owner of B&D Lawn and Landscaping, Stum said he has been in business in Waynesboro since 1989.

His business is considered one of the top lawn care and landscaping companies in the Waynesboro area, said Jim Rock, who received the Roy S.F. Angle award last year.

When it comes to operating his enterprise, Stum said he takes a practical approach.

His philosophy: "Work hard, do your best, understand your strengths and weaknesses and surround yourself with good positive people."

In addition to operating a business, Stum volunteers as a soccer coach and head of the Waynesboro Jubilee celebration.

He is married to Jean Stum and a father of three.
