"This comment is directed to those people out there who like to rush around to get where they want to go. Does the thought ever cross you people's mind, what if you don't make it where you want to go, your destination, other than in your grave? ... They pass one another on the highway and then they turn off just a few feet up the road. I think that's really stupid of people." - Greencastle, Pa.

"I'd like to say that if I have to pass an urinalysis test to go to work or to get a job, that whoever receives benefits from the government, such as food stamps, social services, medical help ... they should have to pass an urinalysis test in order to get their benefits. I don't think it's fair for us to have to go through what we have to, to earn the money, pay our taxes." - Keedysville

"To the caller from Clear Spring: The only reason the terrorists in New York were stopped from setting off explosives was because of the policies President Bush put in place after 9/11. And the Democrats now want to get rid of those policies. So maybe you better thank President Bush for a lot of things." - Hagerstown

"To the person in Boonsboro complaining about the government doesn't take care of them: Yes, they do - just isn't the old people. You have to be young, have three or four kids by different men, have a live-in boyfriend also, and/or get a Social Security check because you're on drugs and can't work. That's the way that goes." - Williamsport

"I wish people would learn that when they come into merging traffic on the interstate, they are supposed to slow down and check. Today, on the way back from Winchester, I got stuck between a tractor-trailer and a person coming onto the interstate that was paying no attention to what they were doing, and talking on the cell phone." - Falling Waters, W.Va.

"I'm calling because I noticed a recent upsurge in children stealing things from people's yards and doing vandalism up at the Ruritan building, and I'm really concerned that we're not protected from these youngsters enough. I had a beautiful grave marker light stolen, and others have complained that they too have noticed that there's vandalism in Rohrersville, and it must stop. I called the sheriff. They were thankful." - Rohrersville

"Why do these right-wing talk show hosts and Republicans think that Obama should listen to all these generals and do what they say, without thinking things out? If you listened to these generals, you'd be fighting more wars than what you're in now." - Hagerstown

"Our president has won the Nobel Peace Prize. What an accomplishment, that we as Americans should be very proud of. His outreach to countries with whom the previous president would not even negotiate has opened dialogue for the first time since Clinton was president. There is hope for the future, if we don't allow the special interests and pundits to take over our minds." - Hagerstown

"This is on the housing industry. Yesterday it said about the housing, home industry is going up, well, because of the $8,000 first-time homeowner's credit. Well, that's like the Cash for Clunkers on the cars. Soon as the $8,000 credit goes away, your housing will go back in again. People, there's 14 foreclosures in the newspaper today, which is Tuesday, and there's 15 in yesterday. That's 29 foreclosures in two days." - Hagerstown

"I wanted to know why they called Devil's Backbone Park in Washington County 'Devil's Backbone.'" - Hagerstown

"I would like to thank all the Washington County Hospital staff for their professionalism and speed. I've never such a crew work so well together. The doctor and his crew and his nurses all do a wonderful job also. I have never had as pleasant an experience having a surgery." - Hagerstown

"I'm glad Chicago didn't get the Olympics for 2016, and I know Obama must be crying, you know, being the superstar he is without being the president. I'm glad that happened. I am a true American, I love the USA, but I cannot stand our president, and I'm glad to see him fail." - Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

"I'd like to comment on the Washington Redskins. I hate to hurt the feelings of the Redskins fans, but I've watched quite a few games here recently, on all teams, and the best I can figure it out that Washington will win one, maybe two more games. They'll finish the season with four wins, 12 losses." - Clear Spring

"I can't believe our president was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, with all our troops fighting in unnecessary wars just about everywhere, it seems like. Well, I figured that he just got it, next year probably the president of North Korea should receive it. There's not a whole lot of difference there. There's a little bit of difference, but not much. And as far as this downtown alley being renamed, leave it the way it is." - Hagerstown
