HCC men to play at Verizon Center

The Hagerstown Community College men's basketball team will play Harford Community College at the Verizon Center in Washington on Nov. 18 at 3 p.m., before the Washington Wizards face the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Michael Celius and Miles Herriger each scored a goal as Shippensburg shut out Shepherd University.

Reiber wins

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Former Waynesboro prep standout Kevin Reiber, now at Penn State Mont Alto, won the medalist title at the USCAA tournament, played on the Blue Course at Penn State University.

Reiber shot a 3-over-par 147 and tied Alex Humphreys, of Rochester College, and won the title in a playoff in the two-day, 36-hole event. Reiber had rounds of 73 and 74. Mont Alto was second in the team event, won by Rochester.


Brown 23rd at Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Former North Hagerstown standout Brandon Brown, 22, recently placed 23rd overall out of roughly 4,000 runners at the Hartford Half Marathon.

Brown, a student at Cornell University, covered the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 13 seconds -- an average of 6:03 per mile.

HCC Turkey Trot

The eighth annual Hagerstown Community College Turkey Trot 5K, kids race and food drive will be held Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, beginning and ending at the HCC athletic complex. All participants are encouraged to bring a few canned or nonperishable goods to the event. Prizes totalling $5,000 will be given away via drawings, with tickets earned for each food item donated.
