Fountaindale school staff collects items for animal shelter

October 13, 2009

Teachers and staff at Fountaindale School for the Arts and Academic Excellence recently made a donation to the Humane Society of Washington County after tweaking a common workplace fundraiser.

Instead of accepting monetary donations in exchange for wearing jeans to work, pet related items were requested. The collection was presented to the shelter Oct. 1 by Leslie Pace, a teacher at Fountaindale.

Leslie organized the collection.

"We've done the same type of collection for other organizations. I'm a big animal lover, so I finally put my foot down and said we were doing this one for the Humane Society," she said. "Everyone was very enthusiastic about participating. We had about 25 or 30 people and the collection basically took over the office."

The teachers and staff used the wish list on the shelter's Web site as a guideline for items to contribute. "It went very well and we hope to do another one soon," Pace said.
