Chris N. Kourtsis Sr., 73, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, after a long bout with cancer.

Born May 5, 1936, in Morgantown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Nick and Helen Kourtsis. He graduated from Morgantown High School in 1955 and attended West Virginia University.

After careers in the restaurant business and financial planning, he enjoyed his retirement working part time at Clustered Spires Golf Course in Frederick, Md.

An avid golfer, Chris also remained a lifelong, diehard Mountaineers fan.

He was preceded in death by his longtime significant other, Ingrid P. Madden and her daughter, Deborah Liberman. Through Ingrid's family, Chris is survived by Donald P. Madden of Chicago, Ill.; Karl E. Madden and wife Margaret of Frederick, Md.; Michael Liberman of East Hanover, N.J.; and grandchildren Stephanie, Dominique, Jessica and Michael.


He is also survived by two sons, Chris N. Kourtsis Jr. and wife Amy of Charles Town, W.Va., and Cory L. Kourtsis and wife Carol; and grandsons, Daniel and Nicolas of Morgantown, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (U.S. 15 North), Frederick, MD 21701 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 15, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m. and committal immediately after. Arrangements are with Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody P.A. in Frederick.
