LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - William Franklin Broadus Sr., 58, of Lexington Park, Md., died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at his home.

Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Betty Jane (Smith) Broadus and William Alexander Somerville of Washington, D.C., and stepson to the late Carl Franklin Broadus.

William graduated from North Hagerstown High School, class of 1968. He was a cook and worked at several of the local restaurants in the area before moving to Lexington Park, Md. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown, Md.


William is survived by three sons, William F. Broadus Jr., Terence L. Broadus and Lamon Thomas, all of Cumberland, Md.; five daughters, Jeaneen L. Holman of Hagerstown, Karen L. Bean of Chambersburg, Pa., Chemise R. Sanders of Waynesboro, Pa., Terese L. Broadus of Hagerstown and Bonita R. Findley of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Debra L. Broadus and Betty I.E. Broadus, both of Hagerstown, Virginia L. Brooks of Culpepper, Va., and Crystal Somerville and Quita Somerville, both of Washington, D.C.; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, William was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Somerville; and a grandmother, Mildred L. Owens.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Zion Baptist Church, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown

The visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown.
