FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Mary Jane Bowers, age 84, of Front Royal, formerly of Richmond, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Derflinger officiating. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Bowers was born in West Virginia on Feb. 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Ethel Frances Brown Adams. She was a homemaker most of her life, a member of Riverton United Methodist Church, and a member of the VFW Post 1860 Ladies Auxiliary.


Mrs. Bowers is survived by her daughter, Carrie Hockman of Middletown; her brother, William Adams of Massapequa, N.Y.; her sister, Faye Poteet of Morganton, N.C.; one grandchild, Noel Parrish; and one great-grandchild, Drake Parrish.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Bowers Sr. in 2004; and her son, Kenneth C. Bowers Jr. in 1978.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers include Larry Moore, Ray Moore, John Neff, Bert Sours, Joe Demarino and Ralph Carnahan. Honorary pallbearers include John Bowers, Tom Potter, Pat Derflinger and Mrs. Bowers' Riverton United Methodist Church Sunday School Class.
