HCC sweeps to tourney win

Tournament MVP Becca Morgan had 27 kills, 12 aces and 12 digs as Hagerstown Community College swept Mott Community College and College of Southern Maryland to win the BJ's Tracy Leather Memorial Tournament at the HCC athletic complex Sunday.

The Hawks beat Mott 25-16, 25-12, 25-23 and Southern Maryland, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.

Julia Becker had 30 kills and 10 digs, Sara Michael had 37 assists, eight kills and eight aces, Ashlyn Rebok had 44 assists and three aces, Emma Dalton had 10 kills and Hailee Growden had 20 digs for the Hawks (22-3).

Becker, Michael and Rebok all were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Shepherd wins a pair

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd won a pair of matches in final-day action of the WVIAC-CIAA Volleyball Cross-Over Tournament at the Butcher Center. Shepherd rallied for a 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-22 win over Elizabeth City State and added a 25-7, 25-17, 25-3 triumph over Virginia Union.


For the Rams (14-8) against Elizabeth City State, Amanda Hall had 19 kills and eight digs, Lauren Gardner had 14 kills and nine digs, Kasey Mercier had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs and Lauren Jeschelnik had 30 assists.

Gardner and Bianca Santos each recorded nine kills and Jane Thompson added 34 assists for the Rams against Virginia Union.


Shepherd 6, Ohio Valley 0

VIENNA, W.Va. -- Sydnie Major scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd to a WVIAC win over Ohio Valley (1-13, 1-5).

Brianna Hines, Erin Quinn, Megan Graf and Allison Novak each had a goal for the Rams (3-7-2, 1-3-1), while keepers Lauren Vetock and Tessa Jones combined for the shutout.

VIENNA, W.Va. -- Alex Ross scored on a penalty kick in the 109th minute lift Ohio Valley (3-9, 2-2) to an overtime win over Shepherd in WVIAC action.

Boonsboro graduate Shane Lowery scored both goals for the Rams (5-8, 2-5), while Williamsport grad Derek Munro had nine saves.


Mercersburg 6, Blair 3

BLAIRSTOWN, N.J. -- Kiersten Sydnor and Liza Rizzo each scored two goals to lead Mercersburg Academy.

Sarah Wilson and Nina McIntosh each had a goal and an assist and Jane Banta had six saves for the Blue Storm.
