Cans being collected instead of treats

October 11, 2009

HAGERSTOWN -- A "Trick or Can" for the Community Food Bank will be held Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in various local neighborhoods.

"Trick or Can" is an event during which individuals ask for a nonperishable food item instead of the treats they receive during traditional trick-or-treating.

Several area youths from various beliefs and backgrounds serve weekly at the food bank. They have decided to "Trick or Can" to raise awareness of the food bank's needs and inspire others to do the same.

The food items will go to the Community Food Bank, which is in the basement of St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 601 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown.
