EDGEWATER, Md. - Harold Raymond Stouffer, 94, an Edgewater, Md., resident for many years, died peacefully on Oct. 8, 2009.

Born Oct. 24, 1914, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Russell and Nina Elton Spessard Stouffer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Downs Stouffer, in 1998.

Mr. Stouffer came to the D.C. area in 1934 and was employed by Sanitary Grocery Company, (later Safeway) as a clerk and store manager. Later employment for the Capital Transit (Metro) became a lifetime job. He retired Dec. 31, 1976.

He is survived by a son, Harold Robert Stouffer of Chocowinity, N.C.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Balderson Hefferin, in 2002.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Private burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The family has requested the omission of flowers. Donations may be made to breast cancer or a charity of your choice.
