Crews plan to install sewer main at Eastern and Dual

The City of Hagerstown has provided the following roadwork information:

Work crews from C. William Hetzer Inc. on Monday will begin preparing for the installation of a new sewer force main that will cross under Dual Highway at its intersection with Eastern Boulevard.

Work will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, weather-permitting.

The preliminary work will involve the installation of concrete jersey barriers and other traffic-control devices on Eastern Boulevard north of its intersection with Dual Highway.

The right-hand turn lane on southbound Eastern Boulevard and the right-hand turn lane on westbound Dual Highway (into the Centre at Antietam shopping center), will be closed to allow room for the contractor to excavate for the force main.

The contractor will install the force main under Dual Highway by excavating a trench across all of the travel lanes. This work will be performed at night beginning Oct. 14 to minimize traffic disruption.

The traffic-control plan includes traffic control signs, cones, barricades and other devices. At least two lanes of traffic will remain open to traffic on both Eastern Boulevard and Dual Highway.

After the force main is installed under Dual Highway, there will also be nightly lane closures on Eastern Boulevard to do tie-in work on the north side of the intersection. The contractor anticipates that all of the work will take approximately three to four weeks to complete.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through this intersection; however, passage through the work zone at night might require vehicles to shift lanes.
