WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Jennings Marvin Oakman, age 82, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at his home under the care of Lutheran Homecare and Hospice.

He was born in Union Township, Fulton County, Pa., Aug. 6, 1927, son of the late William and Blanche Hamman Oakman. He was the husband of Roberta Birdie Wyant Oakman, whom he married April 18, 1987.

He was a 1945 graduate of Warfordsburg High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1952, during the WWII era, stationed at Pearl Harbor.

He was a farmer and a member of AARP.

He was a member of the Buck Valley Lutheran Church and treasurer for 20 years, and he attended the Hancock Assembly of God.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Wanda Lee Elbin of Warfordsburg; many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lamont Oakman; infant brother, Eldon Oakman; and one sister, Myreta Stahle.

A service will be held Friday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Hancock Assembly of God, 431 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, Md. The Rev. Donald Preston, the Rev. Robert Smith and the Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial with a military graveside by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the Buck Valley Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Hancock Assembly of God Thursday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Buck Valley Lutheran Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Souders, 4143 Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home in Hancock.
