WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Waynesboro Area Senior High School's occupancy permit will be extended 30 days beyond its Oct. 14 expiration.
The Waynesboro Borough Council met in executive session Wednesday to talk about ongoing negotiations with the Waynesboro Area School Board.
The council wants the school district to extend Third Street behind the high school. The school board balked at paving property it doesn't own, then said it would be willing to lease a right of way from the borough.
Lawyers for both sides are working on the lease agreement.
The council earlier talked about withholding the recently renovated high school's occupancy permit at the start of the academic year. It then granted a 45-day permit, which the councilmen now say they'll extend for 30 days.
Schools Superintendent James Robertson said he thought the original expiration date was Friday, but, regardless, had been told the deadline would be extended to give the lawyers more time.
