BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Roger Lee "Sonny" Stotler, age 66, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 31, 1943, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Delbert Richard Stotler and June Eileen Hobday Stotler Beddow.

He was of the Pentecostal faith. He attended Berkeley Springs High School and retired in 2008, after 37 years of service, as a truck driver with Eddie's Tire Service in Berkeley Springs. He was a fun-loving, witty and caring person and a devoted grandfather. He loved country, gospel and bluegrass music.


Sonny is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Lou Younker Stotler, at home; one son, Sonny Lee Stotler, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three grandsons, Xavier Lee Stotler, Dante Isaiah Stotler and Jalio Walker Stotler, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one sister, Elberta Louise Malick, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Myrtle Shirley Myers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Hancock Assembly of God, 431 Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, Md., with Pastor Donald Preston and Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Interment will be at Parkhead Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and one hour before the service at the church Wednesday. The funeral home will be open at 10 a.m. Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends.
