Bank gives coin machine proceeds to Smithsburg Fire Company

October 06, 2009

Beginning in July 2008, the Hagerstown Trust Division of The Columbia Bank began to offer bulk coin counting, installing new self-serve machines in each branch location.

Customers can bring in their loose mixed change in any amount, simply pour it into the machine and the machine will sort and count the coins and give the customer with a receipt that they can take to the teller and get the cash or deposit it into their Columbia Bank account.

The fee for the use of this machine is 6 percent. All of the proceeds from the use of these machines are donated to a different local charity each month.

For the month of July 2009, The Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Service and the Smithsburg Fire Company were selected. July proceeds from the coin machine generated $711.49. This amount was divided equally between both of these organizations to help them in their missions.
