Peggy Ann Barnhart, 73

ST. MICHAELS, Md. -- Peggy Ann Barnhart of St. Michaels, Md., died Oct. 1, 2009 at home. She was 73.

Born Sept. 15, 1936, in the Village of Breathedsville (near Hagerstown, Md.), she was the daughter of the late Millard Raymond and Mabel Myers Miller. Peggy was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

For the majority of her life, Peggy was a homemaker and mother. She was a volunteer and advocate supporting the education of the children in the community and schools. Peggy was a St. Michaels president of PTA and involved with the state PTAs, on the nursery school board at St. Luke's Methodist Church and volunteered to decorate the flowers at St. Luke's Methodist Church. She also worked at St. Luke's Methodist Church as secretary and was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Barnhart in 1995, whom she married Jan. 16, 1955, at Manor Church of the Brethren in Boonsboro, Md.

She is survived by five children; a son, Curtis Barnhart and his wife, Cynthia, of Preston, Md.; a son, Craig Barnhart and his wife, Heidi, of Cordova, Md.; a daughter, Kathleen Barnhart of Chestertown, Md.; a son, Christopher Barnhart of McDaniel, Md.; and a son, Eric Barnhart and his wife, Rhonda, of Hurlock, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnhart, Patrick Barnhart and wife, Amanda, Curtis Barnhart Jr., Steven Barnhart, David Barnhart and wife, Ashley, James Barnhart, Jessica Winstead, Mallory Winstead, Jacob Garvey and Erika Barnhart; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Ess, Evan Barnhart, Mason Barnhart, Nevaeh Sutton, Shelby Barnhart and Emma Barnhart; two brothers, Gerald Miller and Millard "Jr." Miller; and three sisters, Melvia "Cookie" Miller, Penny Bartles and Patty Shoemaker.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A., 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, Md. where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 and one hour prior to the service. A visitation also will be held Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, from noon to 1 p.m. at Manor Brethren Church in Fairplay, Md. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Manor Church Cemetery in Fairplay.
