BRUNSWICK, Md. - Mr. Dennis Eugene Brawner, 78, of Brunswick, went home to be with the Heavenly Father Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. A man who displayed great strength, courage, wisdom intelligence and faith will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Delores E. (Conner) Brawner.

Born Sept. 2, 1931, in Brunswick, he was a son of the late Ferris D. and Ellen (Cannon) Brawner. Mr. Brawner was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He retired as an engineer from the Chessie Railroad after 40 years of service. For a time, he was also employed with the National Institutes of Health. For relaxation, he enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and walking.

Surviving besides his wife, he will be greatly missed by his three children, Vicki S. Himes and husband, David, of Knoxville, Md., Brian E. Brawner and wife, Carol, of Frederick, Md., and Tami E. Nick and husband, David, of Brunswick; four devoted grandchildren, Amy Folden and husband, Bill, Chaz Himes, and Ashley and Alexis Nick, and four other grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Bryn, Blake and Bryse Folden, and Bailey and Bre Himes, and three other great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Nelson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Kevin Brawner; five brothers; and one sister.

Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick Monday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, with the Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brownsville Church.
