CASHS senior killed in crash

A 17-year-old senior at Chambersburg Area Senior High School died Saturday at York (Pa.) Hospital, a day after she was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Franklin County, Chambersburg Area School District Assistant Superintendent Eric Michael confirmed Saturday night.

Kacy Straub, a member of the Trojans golf team, was flown to the hospital after the accident Friday in the 2400 block of Grandpoint Road, according to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police.

"The CASHS family is deeply saddened by this news," Michael wrote Saturday in an e-mail to The Herald-Mail. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Straub family."

Police said the girl was traveling north on Grandpoint Road at 10:34 p.m. when she lost control of a 1990 Lexus on a curve and struck a tree. She had to be cut out of the vehicle, the release said.

A Pennsylvania legislative journal for Feb. 4, 2009, posted online says she served as a guest page for the House of Representatives in February.

Stanley Helman, president of the Chambersburg Area School Board, said Saturday night she was a "tremendous" student who was active in clubs and sports.
