HANCOCK - Vicki Himes would like to buy a new camera with her $100 prize from winning the grand prize for the Hancock 'Our Town' Photo Contest.

Instead, Himes, 45, of Hancock, said she'd use it to pay bills.

Himes entered the contest for the first time last year. She didn't win anything last year nor did she expect to.

Himes said she entered again this year "just to do it, because I love pictures. I didn't expect anything out of it this year either," she said.

Contest organizer Sam Judge said 30 people entered 65 photos in this year's contest.

Judging is based on the photo's significance to Hancock and the image's artistic or photographic quality.

Winners of the four photo categories each won $25. All the winners and photographers who received honorable mentions received certificates.

The contest was sponsored by the Hancock Photo Club, Hancock Arts Council, Realtor Keith Kirk and War Memorial Library.

The winning photographs and honorable mentions are on exhibit at War Memorial Library, 220 Park Road in Hancock, through at least November.

The library is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

The other people to receive honorable mention for their photos are Lorraine Murray, Don Corbett, Raina McCray, Tracy Salvagno, Dina Clopper and Cheryl Stanley.
