Heritage students pray at pole

October 03, 2009

On Sept. 23, students in grades 3 to 12 at Heritage Academy met as part of the national "See You at the Pole" program.

Student Council president Duncan Smyly began the meeting by explaining the significance of "See You at the Pole."

Hunter Powell, school principal, read from Isaiah 61:1, which tells how Jesus Christ would come to give us liberty.

Bob Becker, history teacher, then shared a brief history of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This was followed by Laura Kelley, a senior at the Hagersown school, who led the student body in singing "God Bless America."

Students, led by Josh Long, who will be joining the Marines after graduation, then joined together in a time of prayer for our country and our servicemen.

After a time of silent prayer, Harold Miles, senior adviser, concluded the meeting with prayer.

After students returned to their classes, those involved in student government spent several minutes praying specifically for the leaders of our country and their school, asking God to guide the current leaders and to raise future leaders from amongst the students at Heritage.
