Turkey dinner to be held Oct. 10



In preparation for Men's Day, the men of Ebenezer AME Church will host a turkey dinner Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 11 a.m.

The church is at 40 W. Bethel St.

The menu will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, roll, iced tea and dessert for $9. The dinner will be eat in or carry out. This year, they will also deliver. Call 301-797-6123 (note: when you call, they will tell you if your house is in their range.)

Then save the date: Sunday, Oct.18, will be the Men's Day services at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Diabetes class offered Oct. 15



The Walnut Street Community Center, 24 N. Walnut St., will present a free diabetes education class Oct. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. The topic is "Diabetes Type 2 - Health Choices - Nutrition and Exercise."

Movie night



On Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m., the Bridge of Life Church, 14 S. Potomac St., will show the movie "Speed Racer."

Free popcorn and free sodas will be available.

Book club



The Sisters-in-Spirit Book Club members will discuss the book, "Killer Chameleon" by Chassie West when it meets Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m.

An Evening of Jazz



The Doleman Black Heritage Museum will host "An Evening of Jazz" Sunday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.

This event will be held at the University System of Maryland, 32 W. Washington St. (main entrance). The event will feature jazz saxophonist Brian Lenair, who has performed with national recording artists such as Will Downing, Maysa, Jean Carne, Miki Howard, Al Jarreau, Pieces of a Dream, Grover Washington Jr., Peabo Bryson and George Benson.

Choir Day



Second Christian Church will hold Choir Day Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Center, 131 W. North Ave. Choirs from different states and churches in the area will participate.

The Washington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society will host its 20th annual Grand Sunday Brunch at the Hager Hall Conference and Event Center Nov. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Chili Cook-off



The Hagerstown Suns' sixth annual Chili Cook-Off and Music Festival will be Saturday, starting at noon at Municipal Stadium to benefit the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Library seminar



In celebration of American Archives Month, the Friends of the Western Maryland Room invite you to attend "Protect Your Image: Caring for Photographs" presented by Donna M. Wells at Washington County Free Library Sunday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to bring photographs for an informal show and tell.

Discussions about photographic processes, dating photographs and preservation issues will reinforce the information presented during the workshop.

Pet blessing



The annual pet blessing will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown. Pastor Linda Alessandri will provide the blessing and treats will be available. There will also be a photo opportunity.
